"Don't shoot the White Guy"

Ok, this is the Allstate man, the leader of the Unit, Dennis Haysbert.
I truly love him, and his voice. I have even met him, across the serving line, (another story another time), and he is all that! But I digress from the start. This isn't about him, but something he said from a script in The Unit. (there were several episodes on CLOO this am).
"Don't Shoot the White Guy"
At first it seemed humorous, but then the old brain waves kicked in. I left the silver screen (not, it was my TV) and googled, (aoled?) the stats on percentages of shootings (by law control aka police) according to race. I knew it was bad, but heck, if you are of any other persuasion than Anglo-Saxon your probabilities of being shot are phenomenally higher. Go research if you think I kidding. It just makes me angry.... I watch the news, I read the news, I even read the newspaper (yes I still get one). I know that there are whites are commiting crimes left and right, commiting heinous, physical crimes, not to mention the "White Collar" crimes. Why do we see more, hear more, about the Hispanics, Blacks and Asians being shot while the White guy is merely apprehended. I know I am not expressing this the way I intended but perhaps you get my drift....
Just hit a nerve in the early hours....

So, sew, sown!

And sew it is the second and I have not sewn. I did sow some seeds to the wind when I took out some summer plants! Sometimes flowers by chance are lovelier than the ones we tend. Catching up on blogs I follow, so much talent and inspiration out there! Keep it coming, Heaven know I need all I can get. My darling Vivianna is getting bigger but so much smaller than her Mother or myself at seven months. Can't wait to hold that baby! Will start some special sewing very soon! Sew there...

2012 Year of Digression

But I Digress...I should rename my blog- I love to write, to tell stories, to talk and sing but I always digress as the memories or thoughts pop into my head. I am not eloquent or elegant! This is why I do not blog when the urge hits me- I am usually in the middle of something else or think I will get to it, eventually! I have pictures to post, ideas to share but be aware some inner works are dark and mysterious, yet sometimes humorous!
So far, (it is 9:00 am New Year's Day) if I had made resolutions (thought about it) I have already broken them. I may get back on track, but who knows!!! At least I shall have Black eyed Peas and greens, cornbread and ham- all for luck (LOL) this day. I don't know why this silly tradition has stuck in my head, but if my Grandma (she was eighty when she died I was sixteen) thought it was right, then I shall do it!
Another thing I have done this morning is go out to the garden and work for a spell- Can't do much at one time because of duties to the GM. But if I remember correctly, (again my Grandma Nellie) whatever you do on New Year's Day you will wind up doing all year and whatever isn't done (that should be) you will have to contend with all year. This is why I try to have all the laundry done, food prepared, have clean sheets, clean floors etc. done on December 31st. I want certain things ok for the next year!!! I guess I should sew or quilt some today because I want to do that more this year!!!
See, I digress, and I shall throughout this year of 2012.
Blessings to all and to all a good year!

Green Tomatoes, Puckered purple, I'm seeing Red!

Oh the Joys and Woes of Gardening and crafting. Let's throw in the holidays for good measure. How about a special birthday and an upcoming new great grandbaby. I think my senses are overloaded, overcrowded and just in the mode for shutting down- But I shall prevail, forward, dauntlessly charging into the frenzy of life! This is just an update so you know I am still kicking up my feet with a Ho Ho Ho and away we go! I plan to take some pictures to post of semi-finished projects today. My battles with sewing machine and learning new techniques could be a novel- the heroine may survive but I am not sure at this point~
The GT Relish is done, the GT chutney done, the GT pickles in processing as I speak.....
The purple quilt is killing me but almost ready for binding...
The other unfinished projects are lined up and trying to take cuts in line for being first...
Fire harzard abatement (the dried up tomato plants) still in progress must finish today.....

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL AND MERRY CHRISTMAS because it is and should be even if you don't think so!!! So there, I shall return.....

Three Things

One the blogs I follow, (Eat, Sleep, Quilt) always impresses me (besides the fact she is a great lady and quilter) with her three things to be thankful for list. I thought this morning I should do the same with a twist.
Three Things I am Not Thankful for today:
1. We had two nights of frost and the tomato plants have passed...
2. I picked my daughter's overripe apples last week...
3. GM had a bad day yesterday and this morning...

BUT (there is always a but or butt in my musings)

Three Things that are GOOD (and I am thankful, I think) Because of of the Three Bad Things
:
1. I have lots of green tomatoes to make relish.
2. There is applesauce cooking in the Crockpot.
3. The Bathroom is clean (because I cleaned it really well!!!)

So I must now finish pulling up the tomato plants (TG the trash man comes tomorrow), make the relish,
and hopefully get to read some interesting stuff on my favorite blogs!!!

This is the recipe I am going to use- from Mother Earth News (thank you)

Green Tomato Relish Recipe
Yields about 7 pints.
Ingredients:
25 medium or 35 small green tomatoes
3 medium green bell peppers
2 medium sweet red peppers
3 medium onions
4 tbsp pickling salt
4 cups sugar
3 cups white vinegar
3 tbsp mustard seed
3 tbsp celery seed

Instructions:
1. Chop, process or grind all vegetables into a fine dice, then cover with the pickling salt and stir to coat. Let the mixture stand for 3 hours, then drain well.
2. Boil the sugar, vinegar and seeds for 5 minutes, then add the vegetables and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.
3. Seal in hot, sterile pint jars in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes.

Autumn hippie Fairy

Just received this tag as a gift. The title is Autumn Hippie fairy. How apropos! I just love it!!! Anyway today I turn 65 alas, the golden friggin' years! Medicare doesn't cover Winnie the Pooh so I shall try to stay Happy and Well. I "Love to be me, Happy and free, taking care of everyone, forget about tea" quote from the Mad Mema.
